Most teams workshop E-E-A-T. Few ship it. Thin bylines stay thin. If search systems and AI overviews need parseable author entities, you install them – on real WordPress users, with Person schema. This guide deploys AIOSEO Author SEO (E-E-A-T) v1.2.16 (released September 22, 2026), not another pillar poster.
E-E-A-T isn’t a plugin category. Google’s own framing mixes experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness; Search Central states E-E-A-T is not one ranking knob and puts trust at the center. Author SEO is the CMS layer that stores credentials and emits markup.
System requirements before you touch the ZIP
AIOSEO’s requirements doc (August 2026 refresh) plus core 5.0.2 the same day as Author SEO 1.2.16:
- WordPress 5.7+ (older-than-6.0 support was slated to drop early 2026 – run current WP)
- PHP historically 7.1+; 7.4 minimum after core 5.0.2. Prefer 8.x
- MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.4+
- Plan gate: Author SEO starts on Plus. Intro pricing has hovered near $99.50/year for 3 sites (renewals higher – always recheck aioseo.com/pricing-aioseo). Free/Lite never exposes the addon
- Hosting: ordinary shared/VPS is fine. UI + schema, not a crawler
Fewer editor surprises: WordPress 6.3+ (iframe block-editor fixes landed in Author SEO 1.2.14), PHP 8.1+, HTTPS forced sitewide.
Official download source
Skip third-party ZIP mirrors. Seriously.
- Log into aioseo.com → My Account → Downloads
- Grab the Pro package (
aioseo-pro-v###.zip) - Copy the license key from the account/receipt screen
Author SEO rides on Pro as the E-E-A-T addon. Addon-only history: aioseo.com/changelog/eeat/. After install the plugin list should read 1.2.16.
Install AIOSEO Pro + Author SEO (E-E-A-T) v1.2.16
wp-admin sequence:
- Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
- Pro ZIP → Install Now → Activate
- All in One SEO → General Settings → paste license → Activate
- If Lite was live, deactivate/delete it so two SEO packs don’t fight
# Optional WP-CLI
wp plugin install /path/to/aioseo-pro-v###.zip --activate
# License UI in wp-admin remains the supported path
Open All in One SEO → Search Appearance → Author SEO and make sure the module shows up. Multi-author sites need real WP users per byline – shared “Admin” accounts poison Person entities.
The catch is order. Global Author Experience Topics first; profile Knows About second. Topics live under Search Appearance → Author SEO → Author Experience Topics. Empty global list = empty dropdown. That order mistake costs more clock than the ZIP upload.
First-time configuration (minimum viable deploy)
Globals, then one author all the way through. Don’t parallelize.
Global Author SEO tab
All in One SEO → Search Appearance → Author SEO
- Post types that get authors (posts at minimum)
- Pick Append Author Bio to Posts vs manual blocks only
- Author Experience Topics (E-E-A-T): rows with Name (required), optional URL / Same as URLs to pages that prove the skill
Per-author profile
Users → Profile (or Edit user) → Author SEO tab
- Enable Author Info on
- Alumni Of (school + URL), Employer, Job Title
- Knows About from the global list only
- Awards / Spoken Languages when true
- Square Author Image (Gravatar fallback)
- Short Author Excerpt + longer Author Bio that states first-hand work
- Optional custom Author Bio URL if the long bio isn’t the default archive
Block editor: AIOSEO – Author Bio (compact or full). Shortcodes and theme PHP helpers are documented under Display Info in the Author SEO docs.
Think of those profile fields as wiring a nameplate to the breakers. Schema only lights when the entity data is complete and the same human shows up on every post byline.
Verify the install actually works
Admin toggles lie. Publish a post from the configured user with bio block or append on.
- View-source or a schema tester: Person should carry name, image, jobTitle, worksFor/alumniOf-style properties you filled, sameAs-style links when present
- Front end: excerpt/bio render; social icons resolve if you set them
- Plugin list / AIOSEO dashboard version string: 1.2.16
Human raters still use Google’s Search Quality Rater Guidelines (edition dated 11 September 2025 is the copy most teams still treat as current into 2026). That PDF is a judgment frame – not a scrapeable score. Your bar is honest structured author data plus visible credentials. Chasing a fake “E-E-A-T score” is a dead end.
Common install and runtime errors (and fixes)
If the bio looks perfect in the editor and vanishes on the front, blame theme author templates or page-builder CSS isolation before you reinstall.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No Author SEO tab / feature missing | Lite only, or license below Plus | Plus+, activate Pro license, refresh addons |
| Knows About empty | No global Experience Topics | Add topics under Search Appearance → Author SEO first |
| Incomplete Person after deleting a reviewer | Pre-1.2.16 REST/schema bug | Update Author SEO to 1.2.16; re-save post |
| Person image missing @id / width / height / caption | Pre-1.2.15 schema gap | Update to ≥1.2.15; re-upload author image |
| Author Bio / Tooltip CSS missing via shortcode or theme PHP | Pre-1.2.10 asset load path | Update to ≥1.2.10; clear caches |
| Block Settings panel blank | iframe editor / panel state | WP 6.3+ and Author SEO ≥1.2.14 (1.2.16 preferred) |
| Plugin warns about PHP | Below 7.4 after core 5.0.2 | Host panel → PHP 8.x |
Upgrade and uninstall
Upgrade: Dashboard → Updates, or replace via fresh Pro ZIP. Addon minors move on their own track – read the E-E-A-T changelog before multi-site bulk updates. Afterward open one author profile and one post that had a reviewer assignment; dropdowns and Person output should both look sane.
Uninstall path:
- Turn off Append Author Bio; pull bio blocks
- Deactivate AIOSEO Pro (or the addon if your account UI splits it)
- Delete the plugin if you’re leaving the stack
- Purge leftover post meta/options only with a DB backup in hand
- Re-test URLs that depended on author JSON-LD so you don’t leave broken script tags
FAQ
Does installing Author SEO “turn on” E-E-A-T rankings?
No. There’s no public E-E-A-T score. You get machine-readable credentials and Person schema. Rankings still run through many systems; this just stops “anonymous byline” gaps.
I filled my bio but validators still complain – what now?
Check three boring mismatches first: post type enabled under Author SEO → Post Types, byline user equals the profile you edited, guest byline not pointing at an empty account. Still broken after 1.2.16? Re-save the user, purge CDN, re-test. Changelog rows above already map the old image-property and deleted-reviewer bugs – updating past those releases is the fix, not another bio rewrite.
Can I skip AIOSEO and only use a free Chrome E-E-A-T auditor?
Auditors critique pages. They don’t store fields or emit Person JSON-LD from your CMS. Run a checker after deploy if you want a second opinion. Production options are still: a field+schema plugin like Author SEO, or hand-rolled theme schema. Plugin wins when non-devs rotate authors weekly; theme code wins when you have one engineer and five static bios.
Next action: confirm Plus → install Pro → define three Author Experience Topics → finish one real profile → publish a test post → validate Person schema → clone the pattern to the rest of the staff.
