What is Midjourney?

Midjourney is an AI art generator that creates stunning images from text descriptions. It runs through Discord, making it easy to access and use. Whether you want photorealistic images, artistic illustrations, or abstract art, Midjourney can create it.

Setting Up Midjourney

To use Midjourney, you need a Discord account. Join the official Midjourney Discord server and subscribe to a plan. Once subscribed, you can generate images in any of the bot channels or by messaging the Midjourney bot directly.

Your First Image

Type /imagine followed by your description. For example: /imagine a cozy coffee shop on a rainy evening, warm lighting, watercolor style. Midjourney will generate four image variations for you to choose from.

Prompt Engineering for Art

Great Midjourney images come from great prompts. Include details about subject, style, lighting, mood, camera angle, and artistic medium. Use terms like “cinematic lighting,” “8k resolution,” “concept art,” or specific artist styles.

Prompt Structure

  1. Subject: What is in the image (a dragon, a cityscape, a portrait)
  2. Style: Art style or medium (oil painting, photography, anime)
  3. Details: Lighting, colors, mood, composition
  4. Parameters: Technical settings like aspect ratio and quality

Useful Parameters

Midjourney supports various parameters to control output. Use --ar 16:9 for widescreen, --v 6 for the latest model version, --style raw for less stylized results, and --q 2 for higher quality. These parameters go at the end of your prompt.
